Video from my close encounter with dolphins on Saturday, March 30, somewhere between B&C buoys in the La Jolla Cove (about a mile away from land) with Barbara Held. 60 degree water was nice too.
Neil sounds the vuvuzela to mark the final stretch of Grace van der Byl’s world record setting Catalina island to mainland swim. She made the journey in 7 hours and 27 minutes, breaking the record (set in 1994 by Karen Burton) by nearly 20 minutes in the most well-deserved and hard-fought feat. And I’m the lucky one able to call her my training partner, mentor, and dear friend. (Fellow/former RSD swimmers, yes, that is Coach Joe’s unmistakable “yell” in the background.)
Enroute to Catalina for my first long night on the San Pedro Channel. Makes me glad I don’t have to experience the English Channel before I actually swim it.
