There is something remarkably calming about a morning swim in 52 degree open water, and moreso when you’re the only one in a wetsuit. A first timer in the San Francisco Bay, I went through Dolphin Swim Club, where there must have been 15 other swimmers in the water at various points in my own swim – all with insulated caps, but no wetsuits. Hella respect! After several laps around the buoys, numb even my tongue, I called it a day. And a good thing I did. The picture below is of my feet thawing in the locker room (the line on my calves marking where the wetsuit cut off). Brrr… The extra 6 degrees in summer makes such a difference!
